NCC Seizes Pirated Works In Ilorin Worth Over N4m

Pirated works believed to worth over N4m have been seized in a raid by the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) in Ilorin.

Punch reported that the Head, Ilorin Liaison Office of the commission, Mrs Justina Akinwumi, Head of the Ilorin Liaison Office of the commission said on Tuesday to newsmen said in the course of the raid, five persons involved in the piracy business were arrested.

Akinwunmi said, “Nigerian Copyright Commission has zero tolerance for piracy and all the perpetrators of the heinous act will be brought to book.” 

She added that NCC would stop at nothing bring to the barest minimum the activities of pirates in the country which is so alarming. In her word: “Activities of pirates in the country have assumed an alarming dimension and there is the need to put a lasting solution to the menace.”
Akinwunmi said the arrested five suspects are guilty of illegal production and the circulation of pirated optical discs in Ilorin.

She said: “Copyright Inspectors backed by armed policemen in an anti-piracy operation carried out at five suspected optical discs shops containing Nigerian and foreign musical and movies confiscated pirated works worth N4m.” 

She has dished out warnings to those involved in this criminal activities of selling both foreign and local pirated video and musical works to stop it or be brought to book.

She gave out a heartfelt request to the people to make their purchase of genuine products, especially home videos and musical works.
