The First Executive Governor Of Bayelsa State,Diepreye Alamieyeseigha Is Dead

The first executive Governor of Bayelsa State,Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha is dead.
Alameiseigha reportedly died after he was rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) in Rivers State.
Family sources claimed that the former governor  suddenly fell ill in his hometown in Ammassoma township of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa and was rushed to Port Harcourt.

Fed.Government And WHO Confirm Cross River Death Case Not Ebola

The World Health Organization (WHO) yesterday  insisted that the man who died at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) this week had no Ebola. Ten people were quarantined as a precaution. Cory Couillard, from the WHO African Region, told AFP in an email that the “laboratory investigation for EVD (Ebola Virus Disease) and Lassa fever turned out negative”. The Federal Government also confirmed yesterday that the  results of the laboratory tests on the deceased were negative.







Chip-and-Sign Credit Card Systems Are Weak,FBI warns

The FBI has a stern warning for the credit card industry's latest security measure, the EMV chip. In a statement yesterday, the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center warned that the new chips don't prevent against online fraud or point-of-sale compromises of the type seen in the Target hack. The warning emphasizes the weakness of signature-based systems ("chip and sign" rather than "chip and PIN"), and instructs merchants to require a PIN number in place of a signature wherever possible. "This fully utilizes the security features built within the EMV card," the warning states.

The controversy over the monthly salary of a Nigerian lawmaker has finally been laid to rest with a formal disclosure of what the legislators earn. The National Institute of Legislative Studies, NILS, apparently worried by growing public outcry against the Nigerian lawmakers, on Friday released a set of documents, showing what constitutes the earnings of the 109 Senators and 360 members of the Nigerian House of Representatives. The documents, which were made available to Vanguard in Abuja on Friday, indicated that the Nigerian lawmakers earn perhaps one of the least salaries among legislators in the world, as against the notion that their pay was outrageous.


Ebola Is Still Around,Countries Be On High Alert - WHO

THE World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned that the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) is still lurking around and countries should be on high alert.                                                               The just concluded seventh meeting of the Emergency Committee of the global health body convened by its director-general, under the International Health Regulations (IHR) (2005) regarding the EVD outbreak in West Africa, has declared that the EVD outbreak continues to constitute a public health emergency of international concern. Representatives of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone made presentations on the current epidemiological situation in their countries, response operations and exit screening.

Fish Out Biko Haram Sponsors In 2 Months - Northern Governors Forum

Governors of the 19 northern states on today, inaugurated a committee to identify Boko Haram sponsors within two months, with a view of prosecuting them.
Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum and Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, while inaugurating the committee at the late Gen. Hassan Katsina House, Kaduna, also noted that the days of the deadly sect were numbered considering the current bombardment of the insurgents by the Nigerian troops.
Shettima added that with the superior firepower of the Nigerian troops, the insurgents had been dislodged from their strongholds in the north eastern parts of the country.
He said the committee, which would be under the aegis of Committee of Attorneys-General and Commissioners of Justice of the 19 northern states, also had the mandate to review the criminal justice system in the North.

National Human Rights Commission Says 70 Per Cent Of Inmates In Nigerian Prisons Are Awaiting Trial

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said that 70 per cent of inmates in prisons across the country are awaiting trial.

Mrs Morphy Okwa, the commission’s Assistant Director, Investigation and Coordination revealed this while presenting a report at a stakeholders’ validation of the 2014 prison audit report and 2015 election report.
Okwa that though prisons in six states were visited in the last exercise, a compilation of reports from previous visits informed the commission of the current situation.

“It was found that there were 240 prison institutions spread across Nigeria as follows: 138 main prisons, 85 satellites, 14 Farm Centres, and 3 borstal institutions.

Police Nab 6 Men For Robbery And Rape On A Canoe

A gang of armed robbers which specializes in attacking travelers on the waterways have been nabbed by the police.

It was gathered that six of the suspects were arrested following a report by a woman that the gang attacked and raped while she was travelling in a canoe at the Lamgbasa area of Lagos state on September 20.

In an e-mail sent to it, the office of the AGF of Switzerland was asked if it had received extradition request from the UK on the businessman.

It was also asked to specify the time the extradition process would begin and when he would be extradited.

Fire Destroys 25 Shops As Ikorodu Market Gets Raided With Fire

No fewer than 25 shops and two houses were yesterday razed in an early morning inferno which razed a section of Sabo Market, Ikorodu.

Property worth millions of Naira was also lost to the fire, which also consumed a relaxation spot.
The incident which was attributed to a power surge occurred at about 1:20am when the traders had retired from the day’s business.
The prompt response of the state emergency respondents was said to have prevented the fire from escalating.
A mild drama ensued at the scene as some of the victims blamed their woes on the non-challant attitude of personnel of Ikeja Distribution Company who supplies electricity to the market.
According to the traders, the company failed to respond to a distress call until the situation almost got out of hand.
“Before going home on Tuesday, there was high voltage which affected electrical appliances such as bulbs, fans and sockets, a signal that havoc will soon be recorded but the distribution company turned deaf ears to this.

Over 110 Million Devices Has Windows 10 Installed On It

Microsoft today announced Windows 10 is now installed on over 110 million devices. It took the latest and greatest operating system from Microsoft just 10 weeks to enter the 9-digit range.
The milestone was revealed at the company’s Windows 10 hardware event in New York City.
Previously, Microsoft had shared that 24 hours after its July 29 launch, Windows 10 was installed on more than 14 million PCs and that four weeks after launch, Windows 10’s install base passed 75 million PCs.

National Identity Management Commission Enrolls 7m Nigerians, Says D-G

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says it has enrolled seven million Nigerians on its database out of the 13 million estimated for the pilot scheme.

Mr Chris Onyemenam, the Director-General of the commission, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.
Onyemenam said the commission’s facilities had the capacity to register 300 million citizens, urging Nigerians to utilize the opportunity and register for their identification cards.
According to him, the Federal Government considered it necessary to centralise the process of ascertaining the identity of every Nigerian within a national framework.

“Right now in the database, we have about seven million Nigerians, which is quite poor because there have been a deliberate effort by NIMC, through third parties, to do better than this record.

Nigerian Soldiers Kill 100 Fleeing Boko Haram Members

The Nigerian Army said on Wednesday that troops of the Army 120 Task Force Battalion in Yobe, have killed more than 100 fleeing terrorists at Goniri area of the state.

The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col Sani Usman, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja.
The statement said seven soldiers died while nine others were wounded when the terrorists attempted to invade the military base at Goniri, early on Wednesday.

“The fleeing Boko Haram terrorists in desperation to create an impression that they remain relevant, early today made a futile attempt on 120 Task Force Battalion troops at Goniri, Yobe State.

Bomb Blast At Buhari Housing Estate This Morning

Multiple bomb blast have been reported to have occurred in Buhari Hosing Estate in Damaturu, Yobe state this morning.

Okiro's Panel Report; Obasanjo Shared $74million In Halliburton Bribe

Nigeria’s Ex.President Olusegun Obasanjo, who ruled the country from 1999-2000, throughout which he swore to fight corruption within the country, obtained sizeable helpings of the ill-famed Haliburton bribe cash, the Special Investigation Panel headed by Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro, has declared in an  interim report.
