Minimum Wage Should Be Reviewed From 18,000 - NLC

Mr. Ayuba Wabba, the President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in Abuja on Thursday as requested for the review of the N18, 000 minimum wage by the Federal Government.

Mr. Ayuba at the National council (NEC) meeting of the union said that the union was in support of the government’s anti-corruption crusade being a part of the initiatives to positioning Nigeria’s economy.


 “The current minimum wage is unrealistic with the present economic reality,” he said
He disclosed that the NLC agreed on the N18, 000 minimum wage with the FG when the rate of $1 to Naira was N140, but now it's N220 to same.”
Nigerian employees ought to be treated fairly by reviewing their earnings upward in line with the current economic reality, adding that the salary was now not enough to sustain employees.

He condemned the level of corruption within the country, as privileged few cart the resources meant for all Nigerians, adding that the NLC would support President Buhari on his move to prosecute culprits.

“The issue of corruption in Nigeria is mindboggling and unacceptable to us as this has caused many of us to be living in penury.

“Those responsible for corruption and stealing of our collective patrimony should be prosecuted and face the law if found wanting, this is the only way to make Nigeria work,” he said.


He highlighted that those lots of resources that ought to accrue to the state were being purloined by people and a privileged few.
