State Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode has approved the discharge of N11 billion to offset
all pension liabilities within the state accumulated since 2010.This was disclosed in a statement by the state’s Head of Service,
Mrs Shade Jaji, on Wednesday in Lagos.
Jaji announced that the move was to bring relief
to retirees within the state’s public service. She stated that unharness of the
fund was additionally a part of measures by government to seek out a holistic
answer to payment of pension to retirees below the PAY AS YOU GO theme. She
added that accumulated pension rights
attributable to retirees below the contributive Pension theme would even be
taken care of.
”The
state government has developed a comprehensive payment plan to resolve all
outstanding pension issues in the immediate (short), medium and long terms.
”The short and immediate term plan is for pension payments to MDAs and
Parastatals, including local governments and SUBEB, which will be made monthly,
commencing from August 2015,’’
She
explained that effort of state was to scale back, if not wholly clear
outstanding liabilities attributable to retirees within the state.
