Yaya Toure Crowned BBC African Footballer Of The Year Award 2015

Yaya Toure has been voted the BBC African Footballer of the Year 2015.
The 32-year-old Ivory Coast midfielder becomes only the third player, after Nigerians Nwankwo Kanu and Jay-Jay Okocha, to receive the honour twice.
Football fans voted for Manchester City's Toure, who first won in 2013, ahead of Yacine Brahimi, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Andre Ayew and Sadio Mane.

"I am very proud. To receive this dedication from the fans is unbelievable," Toure told BBC Sport.

Nigerian Preacher Arrested After Being Accused Of Robbing And Raping Prostitutes

A Nigerian preacher in Washington DC has been arrested after being accused of beating, robbing and raping escorts in hotels across Washington DC.
Gabriel Omogbo of Hyattsville, Maryland, is charged with attempted first degree murder, armed robbery, first degree assault and reckless endangerment.

Police believe that the 33-year-old used the website Backpage.com to find female escorts and arranged to meet up with them.

Former Super Eagles Coach Stephen Keshi has confirmed the sudden death of his wife, Kate, in the United States.States. Keshi who revealed that his wife had been sick for a while said he never expect that the sickness will lead to her death

Angola Shuts Down All Mosques In The Country,Bans Islam

Reports say that Angola has declared Islam illegal and ordered for all the mosques in the country to be closed down.
Minister of culture Rosa Cruz e Silva said that mosques in the largely Christian country would be closed until further notice.
She described Islam as a ‘sect’ that would be banned as counter to Angolan customs and culture.

Kogi Gov-Elect Yahaya Bello Issued Certificate Of Return By INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday 9th of Dec.  issued a Certificate of Return to the Governor Elect of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
Alhaji Yahaya Bello who replaced the late Mr Abubakar Audu, defeated the incumbent, Governor Idris Wada, of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

In declaring the results of the election, the Returning Officer of INEC, Professor Emmanuel Kucha, said the APC’s candidate polled 247,752 to defeat Captain Wada who got 204,877 votes.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday, docked erstwhile Chairman of DAAR Communications Plc, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja over alleged N2.1 billion fraud.
Dokpesi, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP,  is answering to a six-count criminal charge bordering on alleged procurement fraud  and breach of public trust.

He posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday, pledging his support for Muslims, affirming that the social network is “a peaceful and safe environment.”

A petition to ban Donald Trump from the UK has attracted more than 150,000 signatures - which could trigger a House of Commons debate.
But George Osborne says it would be better to debate with The Donald, rather than banning him from the country.
It follows a string of bizarre rants from the reality TV star, presidential candidate and part-time steak salesman.
Yesterday he called for the US to put a halt on Muslims travelling to the country.

When he faced uproar over the comments, and suggestions he should be banned from the UK under 'hate speech' rules, he claimed parts of London are so radicalised that they are "no go areas" for police.

How GEJ, Okonjo-Iweala Illegally Transferred N61.4b To Dasuki

The former minister of finance, Dr. Nogozi Okonjo-Iweala, allegedly approved the transfer of at least N61.4b ($300 million and £5.5 million) from funds recovered from the late head of state, Sani Abacha, to the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, few weeks to the 2015 presidential election, Premium Times reports.
According to reports, the former minister illegally signed off on the transfer but then closed her eyes to how the funds were spent, requesting former President Goodluck Jonathan to demand accountability from the former NSA.

Dasuki, alongside the former governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa and founder of DAAR communications, Raymond Dokpesi, are being investigated for their roles in the disbursement of $2.1 billion and N643 billion meant for the procurement of arms to fight the Boko Haram insurgents.

New Sexual Transmitted Disease Discovered By Scientists

Scientists in the United Kingdom have confirmed the existence of a new sexually transmitted disease called mycoplasma genitalium.
The confirmation of the bacterial disease, which causes painful urination among other things, as an STD comes more than two decades after it was first discovered.
A team of fourteen researchers arrived at the conclusion after conducting a national survey of the sexual lifestyles and attitudes of British men and women.
The researchers said the study, which involved the testing urine from 4,507 sexually experienced participants aged 16 to 44 years for MG, “strengthens evidence that MG is an STI”.
They added, “MG was identified in over one per cent of the population, including in men with high-risk behaviours in older age groups that are often not included in STI prevention measures.”

Toll Gates Would Be Introduced On Federal Roads - Fashola

Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Minister of Power, Works and Housing, has disclosed that the Federal government will be re-introducing toll gates on Federal roads in Nigeria.
 He said that the money generated from the tolls will be used to maintain the roads. This was said during his first news conference tagged ‘Setting the Agenda for Delivering Change’ in Abuja yesterday December 8th.

Boko Haram Destroys 60 Houses As They Raid A Community Near Chibok

According to Today.ng, Boko Haram insurgents have invaded a community near Chibok town, injuring scores and destroying over 60 houses.
Some residents of Takulashi community who fled to Chibok, some 15 kilometres from where insurgents kidnapped over 200 schoolgirls on April 14, 2014, said they fired into houses at about 11am on Sunday though the news of the attack only filtered into Maiduguri, the state capital yesterday evening due to the remoteness of the area.

“They were not many, but were very armed, shooting and threatening to kill everyboy, but we had fled before they came. They set fire on our houses, even throwing bombs into houses. They burnt down more than 60 houses,” a resident, Bitrus Ali, told newsmen.

ECOWAS To Approve The Use Of Same Currency In West Africa

Mr Kalilou Traore, ECOWAS Commissioner for Industry and Private Sector Promotion, has said that the commission is committed to implementing a single currency in West Africa by 2020. Traore told newsmen in Lagos on Tuesday that the commission was fast-tracking processes toward ensuring the implementation of the single currency within the period.

He said that there were several political and technical implications to be considered during the formulation process that would guarantee the achievement of the policy. “More states have to comply with some macroeconomic criteria like inflation, budget deficit, currency stability; without this, if we set up a common currency, it will fail.”

In Kenya, Church Members Rush For Holy Condoms Blessed By Pastor

The has been a stir in Kenya following a supposed  man of God , Pastor Paul Sanyangore , after he blessed condoms for his church members during a service, reports Nehanda Radio.
According to the reports, there was almost a stampede as church members, both married and singles, rushed to get the anointed condoms from the Pastor who is regarded as one of the most controversial in the East African country.

The pastor reacting to the report justified his actions in a chat with reporters was said to have told reporters that a woman brought the condoms for him to anoint so she could use with her husband who had abandoned her for two years and only went back to her few days earlier.

Senate To Tackle Fuel Scarcity

The Senate Committee on Petroleum Downstream Sector has embarked on tour of depots to get firsthand information with a view to ending persistent fuel scarcity across the country.
Vice Chairman of the committee on Downstream Sector, Senator Jubril Barau, who visited Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), Kaduna area office, said the senate would do everything within its constitutional power to solve the lingering fuel crisis, which had brought untold hardship to Nigerians.

He said the present administration and other stakeholders in the oil sector were committed to bringing succour to Nigerians, adding that the fuel scarcity must be resolved.

Truecaller has announced that its community has reported 2 million spam calls in Nigeria, with a total of 120 000 spam and unwanted calls detected every day across the country.

Thief Caught Red Handed While Trying To Steal Generator From Church

Early hours of Sunday morning December 6th, a man was caught trying to steal a generator from a church.
The man was arrested by OrangeFox Security in Raslouw after he allegedly broke into Shalom Centurion in Johann Avenue.
MarcĂ© Bester from OrangeFox Security said a resident staying near the church grounds alerted security. “He said he saw suspects in his yard and alerted security.”
A reaction team responded immediately and caught a man at the church. They recovered the generator which the man, and supposedly others, tried to steal.Nothing else was reported stolen from the church.
