You
might not make it to heaven when you die, but you can be optimistic to go as
far as the moon. Celestial funerals are currently a prospect, due to San
Francisco startup Elysium space. For a fee of $12,000, the organisation can
privately transport your cremated remains to the moon!
Founded
by former National Aeronautics and Space Administration engineer Thomas Civeit,
Elysium boasts of bringing space and funeral consultants along to produce the
distinctive service “Families now have the historic opportunity to commemorate
their departed loved ones every night through the everlasting splendor and soft
illumination of the Earth’s closest companion: the moon,” they declared in an
exceedingly handout.
Although
the organisation was founded in 2013, the service solely offered in August of
this year, when Elysium managed to seal an agreement with space logistics company
Astrobotic Technology. They’re presently taking orders, and also the initial
batch of ashes can travel the moon on Griffin Lander Spacecraft Astrobotic’s
inaugural satellite mission – in 2017.
According
to Civeit, the families who are choosing the service sometimes have a special
reference to space or the night sky. In fact, that’s however the concept for
the service passed. Elysium’s initial set up was to run a service known as
Shooting Star Memorial, in which ashes are sent into orbit and come to Earth as
a bright streak across the atmosphere. On the other hand they were approached
with AN uncommon request by United States Army foot soldier Steven Jenks.
