The
Nigerian Army today said that it had arrested 2 business center operators in
the city of Maiduguri who allegedly produce counterfeit Nigerian National
Identity Cards for Boko Haram terrorists within the town.
Col.
Tukur Gusau, the representative of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri,
made it known as he presented the suspects to newsmen in Maiduguri.
He
was quoted to have said;
“A business
center around Post Office area in Maiduguri was identified as an accomplice of
Boko Haram terrorists by producing National Identity cards and other documents
for the terrorists,”
He
made it known that this was in furtherance to the combined efforts of the
Nigerian Armed Forces and other security organisations to counter terrorist act
and revolt within the North-East.
Gusau
stated that the 2 operators of the centre, Mr. John Zakariya, and Makinta Umar were
in arrested upon the confession of a suspected Boko Haram member that the
suspects were manufacturing the ID cards for members of Boko Haram.
“Among
the items recovered from the suspects were; computer laptops, memory sticks,
still camera etc,”
“It
was discovered that the accomplices produce fake National ID cards and other
documents for the terrorists in the business centre.
“These
documents enable the terrorists to move freely to various destinations and
carry out their terrorists activities killing and inflicting hardships on the
law abiding citizens of the country,” Col. Gusau added.
