Sad
incident yesterday as 10 operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) were
reportedly ambushed and murdered by Pipeline vandals at the Arepo area of Ogun
State.
According
to reports, the vandals killed the DSS operatives who intercepted them as they
were scooping petrol from a vandalized NNPC pipeline at Konu, a border town between Arepo and
Ikorodu.
The
security agents were on their way to arrest the vandals when they were ambushed
and killed.
According
to a source by the Nation, He said that “DSS
personnel have for some time now been deployed to monitor pipelines and arrest
vandals.
“It is not
the first time they will be engaged in it. In fact since the military was asked
to stay off internal security unless in the northeast, and the OPC contract
terminated, these criminals have overwhelmed the police.
“So many
security personnel have been ambushed and killed in the last two weeks by the
criminals who usually take their bodies into the creeks and bury them in
shallow graves.
“The police
and NSCDC have not been able to enter the creeks, they fear for their lives
because those criminals are well armed and have informants,” the source
disclosed.
