The
Port Harcourt and Warri refineries have commenced oil production after engineers
in-house conducted 9month rehabilitation on each facility says The Nigerian
National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The
Federal government has expressed
readiness to scale down the importation of refined petroleum product following
the plan of bridging demand gap in
native consumption with the commencement of production in Warri plant and the
Kaduna facility owing to follow shortly.
The
NNPC declared this in a statement free by its GM, Public Affairs Division, Mr
Ohi Alegbe yesterday. The statement reads;
“What this means is
that both plants have resumed production of petroleum products. For now, about
60% of its 210,000 barrels per day production capacity is being achieved, but
it is projected that it will hit its installed 125,000 barrels per day capacity
soon,”
The
CBN governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele said this during a briefing at the central
bank’s headquarters after the July Monetary Policy Meeting in Abuja on Friday
disclosed the federal government’s plan.
He
noted that the revival of the 2 refineries followed series of meetings between
the central bank, the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation
(NNPC).
