Multiple
bomb explosions rocked two motor parks in metropolis of Gombe state on Wednesday
night, killing no fewer than 30 people, while about 150 other persons sustained
injuries, the Nigeria Red Cross Society (NRCR) in Gombe state confirmed.
Malam Abubakar Yakubu, Secretary of NRCS in
the state, said that “the remains of the dead victims had been deposited at the
mortuary of Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH) Gombe”. Highlighted that those injured were receiving
medical attention at the hospital and Specialists’ Hospital, Gombe state.
The Gombe State Police Command’s Public
Relations Officer, DSP Fwaje Atajiri, who confirmed the incident, said details
on casualties were yet to be available. He said the first blast occurred at
Dadinkowa motor part around 7.30 pm, followed by the second explosion at Dukku Park
some hours later. The DSP stated the area of the incident had been cordoned off
and movement in the metropolis, restricted throughout the remaining part of the
night an eye witness, Malam Idris , said that the explosion at the Dadinkowa
Park occurred very close to a mosque when people were coming out of the mosque
after performing their prayers. In both cases, the Improvised Explosive Devices
was used for the operation
