Police Inspector Mistakenly Fires Rifle On Himself Causing His Death

The ambiance at the MOPOL 20, within the Ikeja area of Lagos, had been tense since Tuesday when a police inspector, known as Medugwu, erroneously shot himself dead, in the process of adjusting a faulty rifle.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Tuesday at about 10am when a policeman brought the faulty rifle to the deceased to check and re adjust for him.

PUNCH correspondent learnt that the inspector, who was hooked up to Mobile Police Force 20, was the lieutenant to the armourer. He was said to accidentally force the trigger of the rifle that sent a bullet to his jaw.

It was learnt that the lieutenant to the armourer collected the rifle, and tried to search out wherever the fault was. The rifle was said to have fired in the process.

Other policemen within the space rushed to the scene and took Medugwu to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital,(LASUTH) Ikeja.

The inspector, however, died at about 1pm within the hospital.
