Chief Moses Adejumo Olaiya aka Baba Sala, a Veteran Yoruba comedian,
who has been on the hospital bed, over his health that was becoming
progressively worse on Monday has been discharged from the University College Hospital
(UCH), Ibadan.
Vanguard reported that Mr. Deji Bobade the Head, Public
Relations Unit, UCH, Ibadan, declared this during a telephone interview.
The octogenarian according to Bobade has fully recovered and
his health has been fully restored before his discharge. In his words, he said,
“Yes, Baba Sala has been discharged. We
discharged him after giving him necessary medical care. He was on admission at
the teaching hospital for a week. If he was not alright, we could not have
discharged him.”
Pa Adejumo who is widely known for his rib-cracking comedy
while he was still agile, was rushed to the hospital by his son, Mr. Emmanuel
Adejumo Olaiya. This further increased anxiety about the status of the comedian’s
health.
To forestall unnecessary speculations made from people from
various parts of the country through phone calls, his son has reassured newsmen
that his father was in good hands and responding to treatment.
In his words: “Baba Sala
felt uncomfortable on Saturday and he was taken to Adewale Hospital in Ilesa
and he was better. But, on Sunday, he felt sick again and was returned to the
hospital. The doctor said he would need oxygen to treat him properly. It was
then our sister who is a matron in UCH, decided that we should bring him to
Ibadan since the doctors’ strike had ended. There is no serious cause of his
discomfort but I think it is old age. The symptom is common to old people.”
