NDLEA HAS SEIZED 2.8 BILLION NAIRA WORTH OF DRUGS AT MMIA FROM JAN 2015 TILL DATE

The National Drug enforcement Agency (NDLEA) taken over narcotic drugs with calculable street price placed at N2.8 billion between January and June 2015 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos, the agency declared. Operatives of the agency conjointly intercepted $2.5 million,as seventy five suspected drug traffickers which includes sixty two males and thirteen females and cash launderers were in remission in reference to the seizures. 

The drugs taken over weighed 455.215kg. The intercepted cash includes $2.1 million bucks taken over from a bureau de Change operator that had been transferred to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for additional investigation. 

Emirates Air has the best variety of drug connected arrests with fifteen suspects, whereas Qatar Airways had eleven arrests. Ethiopian airline followed closely with eight (8) arrests and Etihad airways seven arrests, which show that a majority of the drug was being ferried to Asia. NDLEA commander at the Lagos landing field, Mr. Hamza Umar gave a breakdown of the taken over drug as : “The seized drugs include cannabis sativa 138.304kg, ephedrine 133kg, methamphetamine 93.85kg, cocaine 43.426kg and tramadol 42.025kg. We also seized 2.5 million dollars cash within the period. The money includes the 2.1 million dollars seized from one Mr. Ibiteye John Bamidele who is a bureau de change operator as well as other financial seizures totaling $403,825.”
