Abobaku Allegedly Gone Missing

The news of the death of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, has stirred up so many controversies.
Late Oba Okunade Sijuwade
It has been from one dispute to another. First we saw the dispute raised about his death being called a rumour, then it became the curfew that would herald traditional burial rites for the king, and now the ‘Abobaku’ saga.

According to Naij.com, if this tweet which is making wave is anything to go by, then the burial rites being performed for the Oba might be stopped abruptly as the Abobaku is allegedly on the run.
In the Yoruba cultural heritage, a king does not get buried alone because it is believed the Oba never dies alone, hence, the need for the “Abobakus”. The Abobaku is a person that lives his entire life for the monarch, and once the monarch dies, they are buried together.

The Abobaku family linage is as unique as having ruling families in the ancient traditions because there that belong to this category.

The Abobakus live a good life with great benefits as long as he’s still alive.

  1. I was shocked when i heard of it also and its a tradition we understand and nobody wants it to go bad at his or her own time.In this dispensation we are in now,it is very difficult for revelations like this to go by without a backlash with social media in place...I read a nice article about this and suggest you read it on this https://greymile.wordpress.com/2015/08/17/to-die-with-the-king/
