The Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Alhaji Abdulahi Gana, told newsmen in Minna on Thursday that his men had destroyed 8 illegal refineries in 3 states and seized forty two oil tankers used in diverting petroleum products to the black market. the operation was carried out between July and september
“On Friday we destroyed three illegal refineries in Rivers state; within the week we destroyed five in Bayelsa and another two in Abia,’’ he said.
The commandant general expressed concern that the Federal Government was losing much more oil revenue to the activities of oil bunkers than it was receiving.
He said that NSCDC would continue to safeguard the country’s critical infrastructure and Nigeria's assets to ensure that its development efforts remained on course.
Gana stressed that ensuring the security of the country was the task of everybody’s and shouldn't be left to the government alone.
He, in conclusion, urged Nigerians to report any suspicious persons or objects to any security agency nearest to them.
