A
97-year old woman named Margaret Thome Bekema recently achieved her lifelong
dream when she was presented her high school diploma certificate eighty years
after she had to drop out in order to assist her family.
She
received the certificate from the School administrators of Catholic Central
high school in Grand Rapids at the Yorkshire and Stonebridge Manor senior
community in Walker.
Margaret
Bekema would have graduated with the set of 1936, however she left throughout
her junior year to assist her 3 younger siblings as her mother was sick with
cancer. She disclosed that dropping out of school broke her heart but she is
thankful for being recognized.
