According to the Global Terrorism Index, a report released by the New York-based Institute for Economics and Peace, Boko Haram “has become the most deadly terrorist group in the world”.
The Islamist group has increasingly used children and women as weapons, often deploying young girls strapped with explosives in crowded marketplaces, public gatherings and worship centres, particularly churches and mosques in the North-East.
This clearly shows that the insurgents can still spring surprises inspite of the fact that they have been substantially degraded by the military in compliance with President Muhammadu Buhari’s December 31, 2015 deadline to end terrorist activities in the country.
